In this series, I explore the strong familial ties between women through the skills that they obtain and the lessons that are imparted. I use quilting as a representation of these invaluable lessons that make me who I am. I also question the melancholy and hysteria in the face of striking out in the world with only those skills and lessons learned to rely on. In Veil, the protagonist is bequeathed ancestral knowledge and awareness by her elder, she then goes through stages of fright and uncertainty when being thrusted into independence. Lastly, she is set free from her fear and accepts what the wilds of life are sure to offer. She draws comfort from the fact that she is shrouded in the gifts of knowledge her elders passed on to her.
